Veteran & Descendants to be Featured in State Museum Exhibit
The
Commonwealth Museum, the museum of Massachusetts history at
the State Archives on Columbia Point in Dorchester, is developing
a new
permanent exhibit that will trace the experiences of several
native and immigrant families throughout Bay State history,
from their earliest days here until the present.
Education
coordinator Susan Foster has informed us that the museum has chosen
the family of John
Ryan - who served as a private in Co. C of the 28th Massachusetts,
and later both as first sergeant under Gen. George A. Custer in
the Indian Wars and captain in the Newton Police Department -
to represent the experience of Irish immigrants.
There
have been discussions about the 28th possibly presenting a living
history encampment on the museum grounds to herald the exhibit's
opening.
